Municipalities Partner on Fix a Leak Week Initiative
The City of Charlottetown, Town of Stratford, and Town of Cornwall, have once again partnered to promote Fix a Leak Week, which encourages the public to find and repair leaks in their homes or businesses to help conserve water.
Fix a Leak Week, which was originally initiated by the US Environmental Protective Agency as part of their WaterSense initiative, will take place March 18 to 24. The week is designed to educate the public about the large quantity of water lost each year due to leaks in homes, businesses and infrastructure.
Leading up to Fix a Leak Week, the three municipalities are running a contest beginning March 2. Draws will take place March 8, 15, and 22, with a grand prize draw for a low-flow toilet (donated by EMCO) on March 24. Other prizes include: a water conservation kit, a set of WaterSense bathroom taps (donated by Bird Stairs), and a single handle pull-out kitchen faucet (donated by Wolseley). The deadline to enter is Saturday, March 23. The winner will be announced on social media of the three municipalities on March 28: @ChtownPE, @StratfordPEI, @CornwallPE. Eligible residents can enter at www.BeWaterFriendly.com for a chance to win great prices.
Eligible residents include: Charlottetown Water and Sewer customers, Cornwall Water and Sewer customers and Stratford residents.
Leaks can account for, on average, 37,850 litres of water wasted in a home every year. Conserve water by checking your home for leaks and by repairing them as soon as possible.
All three municipalities offer water-saving solutions such as: replacement toilet flappers, faucet aerators and toilet banks. City of Charlottetown offers a Showerhead Exchange Program and Low Income Financial and Technical (LIFT) program. Town of Cornwall and Town of Stratford offers a Toilet Rebate Program and Town of Stratford also offers a Showerhead Exchange Program.
