Summer is when water use demand is the highest and precipitation is at its lowest. This combination puts stress on municipal water supplies and affects natural environments by lowering stream levels and impacting fish populations. The majority of this water increase is due to outdoor activities. It is estimated that half of the water used outdoors is wasted from evaporation, wind or runoff from overwatering.
The City of Charlottetown Council passed a resolution in September 2012 to amend the Water & Sewer Utility Rules & Regulations to require that all Utility customers adhere to the following Seasonal Water Use Restrictions:
